4.6 Billion -

That's right. Saturday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that MMSD (Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District) dumped a total of 4.6 billion gallons of untreated raw sewage into the local waters in the month of May.

Guess what. May isn't over.

To really get perspective into how much 4.6 billion gallons is-

-It could fill Miller Park 15 times over, from its base to its retractable roof
-Scientists approximate that the universe is 4.6 billion years old
-The tallest building in the city, the US Bank office tower could be filled 41 times
-Mongolia's GDP is 4.6 billion
-Both Uzbekistan's and Madagascar's external debt total in 2003 were 4.6 billion
-There are eight zeros in 4.6 billion
-4.6 billion is a prime number

Okay, I'm stretching here, but 4.6 billion is alot of dung to be floating in our precious Lake Michigan. I'm sure Chicago and the other cities that share the lake with us are real happy with us, but then again, who cares about Chicago?

It's no wonder the city abandoned it's former slogan: "A great place on a great lake".

Angel Decoy -

Here are some photos of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to repel heat seeking missiles. The pattern formed by these decoys are how they got the name "Angel Decoy". I think it's absolutely spectacular.

Prospective -

Hat tip to Sean's Blog:

There are some 8,000 towns and villages in the country. How many do you hear about on the news? For a week, it's all Fallujah all the time. Then it's Najaf, and nada for anywhere else. Currently, 90 percent of Iraqi coverage is about one lousy building: Abu Ghraib. So what's going on in the other 7,997 dots on the map? In the Shia province of Dhi Qar, a couple hundred miles southeast of Baghdad, 16 of the biggest 20 cities plus many smaller towns will have elected councils by June. These were the first free elections in Dhi Qar's history and ''in almost every case, secular independents and representatives of nonreligious parties did better than the Islamists.'' That assessment is from the anti-war anti-Bush anti-Blair Euro-lefties at the Guardian, by the way.

Bush Haters -

Haven't had your load of horse crap today? It's people like this that give the left the reputation it has.

It seems that whenever I negatively comment about Democrats or liberals and one is nearby, they are quick to defend themselves. Upon my challenge of their beliefs, the usual response is "well, I don't exactly feel that way. This is how I feel..." and end the sentence with a remark that feels strangely conservative.

Back to Bob Herbert. Ceratin members the left has gone way too far. People like Bob Herbert are strictly Bush-haters and only fuel the fire for us conservatives.

Little Brown Tugboats -

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) has recently released more than 1.5 billion gallons (yes, that's billion... with a "b") of raw sewage into Lake Michigan. Raw frickin' sewage. The total includes the rain-soaked period between May 13th and May 19th 2004, and does not take into account this morning's torrential rains.

Apparantly in 1997 MMSD dumped even more- 1.6 billion gallons. Their response has been to downplay the severity of the current dumpings by comparing them to the record set seven years ago. These are the two most serious dumpings, and they've made some local news, but there hasn't been a whole lot of uproar in the community. How much are they not reporting?

At least maybe now it won't be long until I finally meet my late-childhood heroes Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello.

No Weapons, Eh? -

Yesterday, William Safire had a great article in the New York Times about the sarin found in Iraq. Here's an excerpt:

...'You never saw such a rush to dismiss this as not news. U.N. weapons inspectors whose reputations rest on denial of Saddam's W.M.D. pooh-poohed the report. "It doesn't strike me as a big deal," said David Kay...

In this rush to misjudgment, we can see an example of the "Four Noes" that have become the defeatists' platform.

The first "no" is no stockpiles of W.M.D., used to justify the war, were found. With the qualifier "so far" left out, the absence of evidence is taken to be evidence of absence...

Most damning is the rise to terror's top rank of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who escaped Afghanistan to receive medical treatment in Baghdad. He joined Ansar al-Islam, a Qaeda offshoot whose presence in Iraq to murder Kurds at Saddam's behest was noted in this space in the weeks after 9/11. His activity in Iraq was cited by President Bush six months before our invasion. Osama's disciple Zarqawi is now thought to be the televised beheader of a captive American. '

Wave This! -

Can you believe this crap? American athletes have been warned not to wave the United States flag during their medal celebrations at this summer's Olympic Games in Athens for fear of provoking crowd hostility.

Right Wing News had this to say about it:

Don't hold our flag high huh? Let me tell you about another time at the Olympic games when Americans weren't supposed to hold their flags high. This is from "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Nazi Germany" and it describes what happened at the beginning of the 1936 Olympic games...

A huge bell announced the start of the parade of the athletes. As always it was a colorful event. Some details, however, were out of the ordinary. Passing below the fuhrer's booth, the Austrian team gave the Nazi salute; the crowd cheered loudly. To the surprise of almost everyone, the Bulgarians goose-stepped by. The French gave a salute that looked like the Nazi one, although they claimed later that it was the raised Olympic salute. The British did not lift their eyes to the "Tribune of Honor" and got booed.

Last in the alphabetical list of the foreign teams was the Vereinigten Staaten, the United States. On passing below the booth, all the previous groups had lowered their national flags. The Americans refused to do so."

Our Olympic athletes didn't lower our flags for the Nazis and we certainly shouldn't be lowering them now. Who cares if a bunch of anti-American swine in the stadium boo? Our athletes should wave our flag and if anyone doesn't like it, they can to go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't agree with him more.

Clark Howard -

Is it just me, or does Clark Howard Have the most annoying voice? Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. I'm a much wiser person due to his show and website, but crimeny, the guy sounds like he's got a badger's teeth deeply embedded in his genetalia.

Iraqi Prisoners -

The soldiers that did this should have their stripes ripped from their uniforms. They are the scourge of the U.S. military. But the coverage and attention this story is receiving is way too disproportionate.

Where were the news stories about the weapons facilities found in Iraq? Why didn't I see photos of the mass graves on CNN?

This is one major difference between World War II and the war on terror. In the 1940's, the American public was told about the atrocities the soldiers were fighting; today, the American public hears only about the rare atrocities we commit (I say "we" for lack of a better term).

Bush's response to this has been attacked by none other than John Kerry-- who never fails to exploit any opportunity to put down his opponent. He criticizes Bush for not apologizing, but why should he apologize? He never gave the order for these troops to do anything like this. These soldiers did this out of their own will and they should be punished as individuals.

This has been a major blow to the rebuilding effort in Iraq and, in my eyes, could be a fatal one.
